I wanted to share with you a bit about why we produced our summer reading program.
For me, it was because of my students.
Over the years of mentor in my private knowing center, moms and dads would bring their kids to me that lagged in reading and spelling.

Often they were just a little bit behind, in some cases they were way behind, and in some cases they were at grade level and just wanted to advance quicker.
In some cases this was because the trainees had discovering difficulties like dyslexia and ADHD. Other times, this was simply because the teachers did not teach all of the specific abilities needed to check out.
There is a science-proven, step-by-step way that all kids can succeed with reading. But, sadly, teachers themselves frequently are not taught how to teach kids in this method.

The problem was that I was only able to see them for an hour at a time and only two times a week.
How could I get these students' abilities up while not simply supplying a band-aid option?
Traditional tutors often simply deal with homework. This does not address the root cause of trainees' troubles and does not actually get their abilities up.
I went to the research and what I learned from my mentors in my early years of mentor.
I discovered that brief activities typically produce better results than long labored work.
I found that teaching in an organized and structured method to target each location of reading and spelling worked.

I discovered that short everyday fluency practice assists all trainees read quicker, more precisely, and inherently improves their understanding abilities.
I found that using graphic organizers assists students find the main point and information, series events, and organize their thoughts to improve their understanding. Trainees could lastly understand and picture what they check out.

I found that teaching through our senses (hearing, seeing, and doing) enhanced their reading and spelling skills faster. It did not matter if they had learning challenges or if they were just merely seeking to advance much faster.
I put together a program of these findings into brief 5-20 minute day-to-day activities that I might do with my students.
It wasn't long prior to my students and parents began seeing significant outcomes. Trainees that were behind by 1-2 years frequently got up to grade level in 2-4 months.
Teachers started to ask what I was finishing with these kids. Moms and dads wanted to know what the magic sauce was.
I knew I had to make my program available to more students no matter where they live. I required to make the program in such a way that moms and dads can do it with their kids on their schedule at home.
This is why I established the summer reading program.

The program does take some involvement from a moms and dad for grades K-2, but for grades 3-8, many kids can do most activities in the program on their own.
